Cammy's Brain Surgery Can't Wait

Donation protected

Cammy is one of the most kind-hearted, yet toughest people I know. Even while navigating the obstacles and challenges of her upcoming brain surgery, she has remained upbeat and positive, all with a remarkable sense of humor. But, the truth is, Cammy needs our help. Always one to offer support for others, she now needs that same support from family, friends, and her community ~ to help with the mounting bills and copays associated with her condition, and imminent surgery to treat the rare tumor that is growing and causing bleeding into her brain.

Prior to 2018, Cammy was a vibrant, active young woman. She enjoyed life in her home, Colorado ~ hiking, horseback riding, gardening, homesteading with her dairy goats, and her beloved dogs. Then the unimaginable happened. She had a brain bleed that turned her life upside down. She was eventually diagnosed with a Cavernous Malformation in the right Insular Cortex and Basal Ganglia. A rare type of brain mass, that for Cammy has caused seizures, daily disabling headaches, difficulty with balance and walking, chronic fatigue, problems with concentration, and nerve pain.

Cammy lost her ability to drive, to hike, to ride her horse. Always an animal lover, she had to re-home most of her farm animals, unable to physically or financially care for them. To further complicate things, Cammy developed severe allergic reactions and sensitivities to environmental and household chemicals, exposures causing additional neurological deficits, even anaphylaxis. Today, Cammy relies on supplemental oxygen, and is now experiencing cardiac issues, most likely a result of her current brain condition.

Since 2018, Cammy's Cavernous Malformation has continued to grow and bleed, tripling in size. Medical experts in the field have agreed brain surgery is now necessary to reduce risk for hemorrhagic stroke, which would lead to more dire and permanent neurological damage, even death. They can't guarantee her current neurological deficits will resolve, but Cammy remains optimistic that with surgery and rehab, she will regain a semblance of her old self back again.

Cammy is now looking at a surgery date of late February/early March. She will be traveling to the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona, to undergo a Right Pterional Craniotomy. But, as the date gets closer, financial burdens weigh heavy on Cammy. While she remains positive about the surgery, inside she is concerned over expenses that will arise out of having to travel for surgery, the surgery/hospitalization itself, rehabilitation, and lodging in the area.

No one facing what Cammy is, should have the additional worry of medical expenses. No one should have to feel that burden alone. While her Medical Insurance will cover 80% of costs ~ 20% of expensive imaging, testing, doctor and specialist visits, adds up. Cammy's focus should be on getting through the surgery, recovering, and feeling good enough to enjoy a day again (and not just struggle through it). Your donation, no matter how small, can help give Cammy that peace of mind. Your donation can help put her focus where it needs to be ~ getting well again! All funds go directly to Cammy. Thank you so much!
