Caminos -- Swim Laguna de Apoyo, Nicaragua
Donation protected
If you are landing on this page, it is because you know that Anj Newman and Pedro Tasker are swimming the volcanic lake, Laguna de Apoyo, Nicaragua, the weekend of July 30th, 2022! The crossing is 4 miles, and with young Anj setting the pace, old man Pedro trying to keep up, and our Nicaraguan buddy Everth hanging on to Pedro’s ankles, we think we can accomplish the feat it in 3-4 hours. Please support us in launching the non-profit Caminos, an entity that is part KIVA (micro-enterprise loans) and part charity, with a focus on helping the under-resourced in Spanish-speaking Latin America. Our mission: To help the less fortunate in the developing world to become self-sustainable, where the impact is great, and rich cross-cultural relationships are forged. Our experience in educational administration, Peace Corps, United Nations and business position us to be uniquely effective in this role.
Our very first project will be to launch our Nicaraguan running buddy, Everth, in a coffee production and export venture. He was raised in the Fabretto Family, and developed his expertise as the agricultural extension arm of the Fabretto organization, rising to be one of the most respected members in the field. He and his partners need seed capital to cover the cost of inputs, and bridge until a sustaining revenue stream can be generated. We are hoping to raise $20,000 to launch Caminos, and in turn get Everth up and running in the coffee business. If we are successful, we imagine we will be hawking Nicaraguan coffee to a coffee shop near you!
Please join us on this journey. A donation of any amount will lift the wonderful community we have developed over the years. And, when we make it across the lake, we are coming for you to join us in swimming it next time!
Huge love and gratitude,
Anj and Pedro
PS We are running Caminos through Gateway Hoops Academy until an EIN comes through for Caminos. All contributions are tax-deductible.
