Our mum, Sam, is in the fight of her life. After seven years of battling cancer, she has finally found a treatment that is working — but it comes at a staggering cost of £800 (~$1000) every month, with no NHS support. Without it, her options disappear. With it, she has more time, more hope, and more life. That is why we are fundraising: to keep her treatment going.
Sam’s journey began in 2018, when she was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Since then, she has faced surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and relentless setbacks with courage that has inspired everyone around her. Last year, she travelled to Zurich to take part in a medical trial. The results were promising — one tumor shrank by 40%, another began to change. When the trial ended, we took out loans to continue the treatment until it became available in the UK.
Now, it is finally available — but still not funded by the NHS. At £800 per month (~$1,000), it’s far beyond what we can sustain as a family. Yet this treatment is her best chance to extend her life, to keep fighting until medicine evolves further, and to give us more precious time with her.
This October, our mom, my brother, and I will walk 100km of the Camino de Santiago — from Sarria to Santiago — as both a symbol of her resilience and as a fundraiser to support her treatment. Every step will be for hope, for more time, and for the future we are fighting for. We hope to raise enough to cover a year of treatment, and buy time for the drug to become covered by the NHS.
To know Sam is to know her strength. She has dedicated her life to helping others, including in her work at Young Lives vs Cancer, where she supports children and families in their toughest battles. Even while enduring her own, she completed the London Marathon in 2023. She has never stopped fighting — and with your help, she won’t have to.
We are raising funds to cover the cost of Sam’s treatment. Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly to her care.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for giving our mom the chance to keep walking forward.
September 18, 2025 Update:
We are absolutely blown away. In just a few days, thanks to your generosity, love, and support, we reached our original goal of £10,000. We honestly never imagined hitting that milestone (and doing it quite so quickly!), and we are deeply humbled by the kindness of friends, family, and even complete strangers.
That £10,000 will cover over a year of treatment for mom, giving her more time and more hope. For that, we are endlessly grateful.
But the reality is that the journey doesn’t stop here. Mom has already taken on significant debt to cover past treatment costs, and there are also other related expenses along the way. Because of this, we’ve decided to raise our target so the fundraiser better reflects the full picture of what’s needed.
We want to be clear: we are not asking anyone who has already donated to give again. Your generosity has already made an enormous difference, and nothing can take away from the incredible gift you’ve given us by helping hit that first goal. This new “stretch goal” is simply a way to keep the momentum going and to invite others who haven’t yet donated to join in supporting mom as she continues her fight.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Whether you’ve donated, shared, or sent kind words, you’ve helped give mom the most precious thing of all: more time.
