My mother, Marie McCann, recently passed away at the age of 86. The last 4 years of her life were plagued with vascular dementia and Alzheimer's.

My mother was a lovely woman with a beautiful personality and treated everyone she ever met with respect and love.

After my fathers passing in May 2007, she lived on her own in the family home but was never without visitors from family and friends. She volunteered for the Foyle Hospice both in the laundry of the hospice and in their charity shop in the center of Derry.

It was devastating for us as a family to see what the disease of dementia and Alzheimer's did to her.

Current life expectancy being what it is, dementia and Alzheimer's are diseases that more and more people now suffer with.

It is therefore very important that we fund research into eliminating this disease.

Starting 15 September 2025, I am walking the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage from St. Jean Pied de Port in the South of France to Santiago de Compostella in Spain, a total of 790 kilometres.

The walk should take around 6 weeks to complete.

All funds raised will go directly to Alzheimer's Research(see photo of Letter of Authority from the charity below), and any donation (large or small) will help make an impact.
