My cousin Camilo has loved playing the guitar since he was little. Starting his studies at 5 years old in Uruguay, he grew up being deeply influenced by Candombe (Afro-Uruguayan music), jazz, and classical music.
In 2023, Camilo was selected as one of 3 students worldwide to receive the 'Gifted Tuition Scholarship' by the Latin Grammy Foundation. He was the first Uruguayan to ever receive this distinction. With this scholarship, he has been able to fund the majority of his tuition at Berklee School of Music, where he is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Performance Music.
Camilo has also been awarded additional scholarships from Berklee to help finance his dream. Camilo just finished his second semester, where he achieved a 3.93 GPA while working 20 hours a week, the maximum allowed amount.
Camilo has worked so hard to achieve this dream of a lifetime. While the Latin Grammy scholarship covers most of his tuition, Camilo still needs our help to cover part of his tuition, living costs, health insurance, and technology costs for the next 2 years.
Camilo has been doing everything he can to cover these costs himself. In addition to working part time, Camilo studied incredibly hard and tested out of several courses. By doing this, Camilo met 2 years' worth of credits in his first year at Berklee! He is already halfway to completing his degree.
Helping Camilo would allow him to achieve the dream of a lifetime- to keep growing as a composer musician, and exploring the musical frontier of his Uruguayan cultural roots and its fusion with jazz, as well as other Latin American styles that come together at Berklee School of Music.
