Cameron's Life-Changing Surgery Fund
Donation protected
My name is Cameron, I am 32 years old, in a happy relationship, a pet dad to three cats and a greyhound, and I’m a transgender man. I questioned my gender for years and years, and, only with the support of my partner, finally started my journey of transition about 10 months ago.
Gender-affirming care is life saving for me. As someone who hasn’t fit into society very well, I can tell you being different isn’t rewarded. I have yet as a working professional with a bachelor’s degree to have a steady full time job and have never reported more than 18,000 on my tax returns (not for lack of trying let me assure you). Needless to say, being able to meet my normal needs on that income is difficult at best, and truthfully not possible. I go without all the time. I certainly believe in hard work, but I also know more than most how steep the gap between economic inflation and fair pay has gotten.
Now that I’ve been transitioning for almost a year, I look like a (young) man, with the unfortunate complication of mature mammary development that is noticeable to say the least. I have been approved for masculinizing chest surgery, and this fund is specifically to help me pay for expenses directly connected to the procedure including:
- The cost of the procedure itself and anesthesia
- the cost of staying near my surgeon for one week following surgery
- the cost of post ops and aftercare supplies
- the cost of food and gas for travel to Seattle and back
My hope is that following recovery I’ll be free from both social stigma of having a nice rack™ and the physical limitation of wearing compressive tops to not turn heads in public- ideally I want to pursue an apprenticeship with our Washington State Electrical Union. Compression tops can help to attain a masculine silhouette but prevent the wearer from engaging in any strenuous activity. Gender-affirming care is more than just about how I feel about it (though that is very important). It is also about aiding the physical and social acceptance of someone like me who found my place as a guy later in life. In this way, I really am a self-made man.
Gender affirming care has been studied for almost 100 years and has been verified as the best and most appropriate response to individuals who realize they are transgender. Regret rates for transgender surgeries are lower than every other ‘elective’ surgery, including boob jobs for women, knee replacements, and hemorrhoid surgery.
Thank you for any support you can give, and for helping me get a little closer to financial stability.
All my love, and thank you!
