Cameron’s Journey to walk again!
My name is Cameron Littlecreek. I am a brother, son, friend, Dog Dad, and many other things. One thing that stands out with me, is that I use a wheelchair to get around. Many of you have only known me like this, but some of you knew me before my accident in October of 2000. I suffered from a spinal cord injury when I got in an accident on my dirt bike. Thankfully I received amazing care from Valley Children’s Hospital, and after stays in the ER, ICU, Explorer unit, Rehab, and outpatient care, I was successfully taught how to live my life from a wheelchair. Those of you who me well knew that was just not going to cut It for me. From the first time I moved my big toe when my mom went running down the hallway in the Rehab ward at 1 o’clock In the morning to get the nurse; to when I promised all of you I would Walk across the stage to get my diploma in 8th grade (which I did!). Fast forward time and like many things, Life got easy in the chair and I just got comfortable. Years went by and in 2013 I moved to Texas to try out a Spinal cord recovery center that is now called React. That was great but life again got in the way and I moved back to California. I have done some awesome things in the chair. Multiple half marathons and marathons, worked, owned businesses, rode ATV’s, hunted, fished, raised pups, and so much more! I never let it stop me, but as I turn 34 this year in August, I want more. More for myself. To push myself to be a better me and do what I have always wanted to and that is to try and walk again. With the help and encouragement from a best friend who believed in me, I took some first steps again at the gym while working out (23 to be exact) and I knew I needed to pursue this adventure again! After being evaluated at SCI-Fit in Clovis, I was hopeful! I was accepted to the program but needed funding. A non-profit called NOR CAL SCI granted me 30 sessions which I am very grateful for! On July 7th, 2021 I took my first official steps on their workout floor! Day 1 we got right into it and soon Steve, Mitch and everyone at SCI-Fit Clovis was blowing my mind with what was happening! I have been to 16 sessions and it’s just crazy how much stronger I have become! I hope you have been watching the videos because they are fun to watch, and I love showing off what is happening!
So that is where you come in! This year for my 34th birthday, I ask for a gift of your support. Your support can be in the form of financial giving, shoes (already got some sick ones to wear out), shorts, or anything you can think of that would help with this journey. Encouragement and kind words are huge for supporting me and go a very long way! The biggest thing is paying for the hours I am in the gym weekly! Right now, I am attending twice a week, 1 day is 1-hour session and the other is a 2-hour session. Of course, the more I go, the stronger I get and closer I am to achieving my goals! I need help to make sure I can keep going and make some dreams come true! Thank you all for everything and let’s make this the best year yet!
