Cameron's Bone Marrow Transplant
Donation protected
For over 3 years, Cameron Skinner (19 years old), has been battling an extremely rare/life threatening blood disease. September, 23, 2011 Cameron was diagnosed with Paroxysmal Nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH).
During the last 3 years he has faced many challenges, underwent several failed operations/surgeries and been put on numerous unresponsive medications. At this point doctors have run out of options, the only solution is a bone marrow transplant. This procedure is very risky, full of isolation and will take up to a year for recovery. He will begin chemotherapy/radiation to wipe out his current bone marrow/immune system and replace it with a new one mid October in hopes to put this all behind him.
Prior to diagnosis Cameron had dealt with unbearable migraines, shortness of breath, paleness of the skin, eye sensitivity to light and extreme fatigue.
On Sept, 16, 2011 Cameron went to his regular pediatrician to see what was causing his symptoms. Doctor's immediately urged his family to rush him to a hospital after his blood test came back showing his blood count was barely 4.
He spent an entire week impatient at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta while doctor's struggled to find a diagnosis.
Two days after admission he collapsed in the hospital cafeteria and woke up in the ICU. He received several blood transfusions to stabilize his conditions. A few days later doctors concluded that he was suffering from a one in a million type blood disorder, PNH.
Cameron has been going to Children's Hospital of Atlanta, an hour away from his house, every friday to get an I.V infusion of a drug called Solaris. Cameron also receives blood transfusions as needed, to keep up a decent quality of life (typically 2-3 times a month).
Recently Cameron was also diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia, a type of bone marrow failure. This was the deciding factor to move forward with the bone marrow transplant.
For somebody dealing with such a horrible illness he continues to stay positive with a smile on his face. After recovery Cameron has dreams to break into the music industry, making a career out of singing/song-writing by the name of Camo Camille. Here is one of his original songs: "Why Do I Still Try?"
Please help raise funds to support Cameron's future, thank you and God bless.
