Cameron's Kenya 2020 trip for Camps International

My name is Cameron and I am 16, and I have just done my GCSE’s at Tytherington School, Macclesfield. I am part of a team who will be heading out to Kenya for four weeks during the summer of 2020 to work for a charitable organisation.  I am hoping to make a positive impact on the rural Kenyan community that we will be staying in, improving life for some of the poorest communities in the world. We will be helping to build or renovate schools, medical buildings and houses for the village elders.  We will also be undertaking some environmental work, for example digging watering holes for elephants, de-worming goats or ensuring safe water supplies to villages.  It is important to me to help others less fortunate than myself but also to broaden my horizons and push myself out of my comfort zone to help me become a better person.

As part of this experience, we are encouraged to fundraise the cost of the trip ourselves, so over the course of the next 18 months I will be taking part in a number of activities including a massive summer of sport, some quiz nights and a race night.

As well as studying for my GCSE’s this year, I work as a volunteer coaching and managing my local primary school football team.  I also help to coach my younger brothers football team twice a week.  In addition to this I participate in football myself twice a week and also do athletics and play badminton.  All of this means I unfortunately don’t have as much time as I would like for fundraising.  I am therefore hoping that lots of kind people will sponsor me for the events that we are doing.
