Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit Care for Camelot, a non profit I created to find and create ways to give back to the Camelot community in San Antonio. One of those ways is to have a Drumline for the students at Camelot Elementary School where I have worked for 12 years as a 5th-grade teacher, and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for reading and considering donating! Here's a bit of the story behind the Camelot Drumline and the Care for Camelot organization which started last year:
- The Search Institute identified 40 Developmental Assets all children need to be physically and mentally healthy. The lowest reported percentage is the asset of having creative activities, which I know I can provide – and I feel like that addresses mental health. I began a Drumline Club that we have started at Camelot, and it gives a chance for students to be creative, learn musical skills and gain confidence. As far as physical health we as an organization reach out in other ways. For example, there are many organizations that give food bags for weekends so what we want to do to help in different ways such as help provide breakfast bars for students in the morning at school for the students that may not get or miss breakfast, or do things like put on Family Dinners throughout the year. We realize that to help someone in a lasting way goes one day at a time and it takes a relationship, and a commitment to work through setbacks, frustrations and challenges, and we are committed to the long term!
