Cambria's Medical Journey
Donation protected
On February 2nd, my oldest daughter, Cambria, was diagnosed with strep and the flu. She showed no signs of getting better after two days, and actually seemed to be getting worse. Thankfully we made the decision for her mom to take her to Nemours because that's where things took a turn for the worse. As soon as Cammy got to the hospital, she started losing control of her body and even forgot who she and her mom were. Doctors rushed her back for a CT scan, which showed that because of the infection and her sinuses not draining properly, pus had leaked into her skull and on her brain; this also caused a ton of swelling. The doctors performed emergency surgery to clean out the pus from her brain and sinuses. The surgeries went well and were performed in the nic of time - saving her from having a section of her skull removed. Doctors told us she probably wouldn't have survived the night, which is the most terrifying thing I've heard as a parent.
Cambria is doing amazing with her recovery; she's even impressing the doctors with how fast she's recovering physically, but her cognitive function is not coming back anywhere near as fast. It's so bittersweet to see her up and doing Tik Tok dances she remembers, but not be able to remember her own birthday. She's already been in the hospital for two weeks now, and doctors think we're looking at at least another 2 weeks before she can even leave the hospital.
As much as this hurts my pride, I am at a point where I am in desperate need of help. I am the sole provider for my family of 5, and not many people know, but I had a grand mal seizure at work about 18 months ago, which put me out of work for about a year. My partner, Sarah, had extreme complications with her Crohn's disease back in August and had to have emergency surgery to remove a section of her intestines, and then a scheduled surgery in December to get rid of her ostomy - both of which caused me to lose a couple more weeks at work. Between that, the driving back and forth to Delaware, food and drinks, and the inevitable hospital bill that is coming, I am drowning. I understand times are tough for everyone, but if you are able to help, it would mean so much to me and my family. Even if it's something as simple as wanting to help out and make us a dinner, I will gladly come pick it up to make Sarah's life easier being that she's been mostly home alone with the other two kids while I'm at the hospital with Cammy. All of the support and prayers you guys have sent have meant more than you could imagine and thank you from the bottom of my heart. Anything you guys are able to help with is very much appreciated. We love you guys and thank you again!
