Christmas Covid-19 Relief to Provide food and supplies for a Cambodian Orphanage and Landmine/Polio Victims in Need

Bel and his wife Chandra are both landmine/Polio victims living in Siem Reap, Cambodia. They have they survived trials of their own and have become loving parents for fourteen children in need of a safe home.

Due to the global pandemic, they are struggling to feed these children, as well as 50 landmine/polio victims supported by Bel’s NGO. They currently have no means of making an income. It costs about $600.00 a month to provide enough food for just their family. I hope we can come together to provide food for their greater family this year.

I have worked with Bel for over ten years now and have returned to Cambodia four times to be with his family. I have witnessed his incredible courage and heart touch the lives of so many over the years. His family of the heart has been hit hard by Covid-19.  All donations will make a significant difference.

Bel’s Story

100% of all proceeds go to Bel's NGO “KILT” (Khmer Independent Life Team), to raise awareness about landmine removal in Cambodia, teach victims new skills for an independent life and to give fourteen Khmer children a second chance.

Bel and his wife are both landmine/polio victims in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Bel lost his leg when he was only seven. It was a miracle he survived. After his accident, his parents abandoned him and he was raised in an orphanage founded by child-soldier turned CNN Hero, Aki Ra.

Bel grew up to be the owner of his own NGO that teaches landmine and polio victims new skills, particularly through artistic expression to create an independent life. After the Khmer Rouge genocide in the late 70’s, about one third of the population of Cambodian people were killed for having an education or any form of artistic expression. At this rate, it will take the Cambodian people eighty more years to clean up the landmines still there today. However, Bel says the Khmer people are rising again with resilience, one piece of jewelry at a time.

Not only does Bel participate in the removal of landmines from Cambodia, but he also runs an orphanage so he can give back to those in need of a home and education, just as he was taken in by Aki Ra.

My name is Talia Atkins and I am Bel’s representative in the USA. I have been supporting this NGO since 2009 and have returned to Cambodia four times to work with Bel and his precious family. If you would like to know more about Bel’s story, KILT or how to donate, please email [email redacted].
