Cambodia to Turkey: Support Sophea's Judo Dreams
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Sophea! I am from Siem Reap, Cambodia, and I have recently been offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with the International Judo Federation. This past month, I became the only Cambodian to pass the International Judo Academy exam, which allows me to become an International Judo Coach and Referee.
Because of this, I was offered an opportunity to travel to Turkey to continue training with the prestigious IJF Academy based in Istanbul. As honored as I am to be selected, the opportunity comes with a high cost.
The program itself is a total of $3,500, inclusive of accommodation, flights, visa costs, insurance, and food. After the program, I will be awarded an Undergraduate Certificate as Judo Instructor.
As many of you know, there is not much support for sport in Cambodia. Especially not for females. Yet, I persist because I have recognized the power of sport in my own life. Sport has taught me how to manage my emotions, work with others, communicate effectively, and be confident in taking on leadership roles.
After this course completion, I will be qualified to train both boys and girls of all ages from all over the world. And that is my lifetime dream- to empower women through sports because it can teach them invaluable skills that will translate into all areas of life. It gives them the power and confidence to go against unhealthy cultural practices and take on leadership roles that will mold the future generation of Cambodia.
