Just over 21 years ago (October 15, 1994) Cameron Gant came into the world. He was BEAUTIFUL!
10 fingers… 10 toes… 2 eyes, 2 lips & 1 nose.
"My BEAUTIFUL Son!" ~Dad
But the Doctors had bad news...
His heart! It needed a little help.
He was diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis.
His 1st heart surgery was scheduled and completed at 2 weeks old to get him healthy enough for a 2nd surgery.
At 16 months old, he had that 2nd surgery. The doctors hoped this would be enough but... it wasn't.
At 3 years old, Cameron had his 3rd surgery & 1st heart valve replacement- The Ross procedure (they remove the damaged aortic valve, replace it with his pulmonary valve & added an animal tissue valve). Success!
But later... Complications.
Cameron underwent his 4th (follow up) surgery the next year.
Mom couldn’t be there so Daddy (Kijana) took care of it all.
“It’s just me and you son.” ~Dad
Cam & KJ moved on, KJ remarried & their family grew.
After 13 years, the doctors at Mayo said his heart needed a little more help! "The old valves are worn out."
Cam had his 5th surgery & 2nd valve replacement.
“I’m still here son.” ~Dad
Surgery was successful but was only good for a few more years.
On October 15, 2015, Cam Turned 21!
“I’m SO proud of you son!” ~Dad
But, Cam didn’t look Well. After an emergency trip to Mayo Clinic, the doctors found an infection in the valve they replaced.
Cameron had his 6th surgery & 3rd valve replacement.
“I love you SO much son.” ~Dad
With every surgery the risk of complicatios increases. This surgery was successful, however the recovery has been tough. The surgery lasted 19 hours due to an active infection & the difficulty of getting through years (5 previous surgeries) of scar tissue.
Well…
Kijana, Yolanda, Kendra, Keenan, Kuan & Kayla need a little help. Your help!
The Mayo Clinic is 75 miles from home, and life doesn’t stop- Kids still need to go to school, Mortgage, Electricity, Water, Gas, Garbage, Transportation, Insurance… Bills, bills, bills…
And guess who is at Cameron’s bedside every day?
Dad.
