Support me running the Cam Half in aid of CamRARE

Hello,

My name is Katy and I am a Student Doctor at Cambridge. I am also a rare disease patient and family carer - so I have first-hand experience of the challenges faced by rare disease patients in our medical system. As a medic, I want to help increase support and awareness for the struggles these patients go through, and improve the care available to all rare disease patients.

CamRARE do incredible work throughout East Anglia advocating for rare disease patients and families. They work to provide support for patients day-to-day, as well as to improve research funding and connections, and produce better outcomes for patients with all rare diseases. More information about what CamRARE do here: https://www.camraredisease.org/about-crdn/

To raise money for CamRARE, I have set myself the challenge of running (yes - running!) the Cambridge Half Marathon. As a wheelchair user, I am unable to run or walk ordinarily, but I am able to use a running frame (pictured) to support my weight and allow me to use the muscle function I do have to propel myself forwards. This frame has allowed me to run for the first time in years, and I want to use this opportunity to challenge myself, while raising money for a cause that is close to my heart.

As far as we know, no-one has ever completed the Cam Half in a running frame, but there's a first time for everything! Your support in this (crazy) endeavour would mean the world to me.

Please donate to this fundraiser - all money goes directly to CamRARE, who use their limited charity funding to support rare disease patients, families and researchers all across East Anglia and beyond.
