We come to you with a heartfelt plea for our dear Wauconda friend, Kim Gravel Moore, who is facing an unimaginable challenge. Kim's daughter, Calyne, has been a fighter since birth. Born with Down's Syndrome, Calyne has overcome numerous life-threatening health complications. However, a devastating accident on September 14, 2023, has left Calyne a quadriplegic in need of 24-hour care.
Calyne’s journey has been marked by resilience, enduring 96 hospital stays and 10 surgeries throughout her life. But now, a recent fall resulted in severe injuries, leaving her paralyzed and unable to do basic tasks she was once able to perform. When I asked Kim what her long-term prognosis was, she said, “Only God knows. She will hopefully be able to sit up and maybe use her hands. I pray one day she will be able to stand or even take a few steps. But the doctors do not believe so.” According to Kim, Calyne’s disposition is “absolutely amazing. She is by far the toughest fighter. She is a true warrior.”
Kim, once able to balance work and caring for Calyne, has now lost her job due to the necessity of being by her daughter's side daily. We are reaching out to our community for support in three critical areas:
Home Modification: Calyne’s 1978 home is not equipped to handle her medical needs. Funds are needed to retrofit the bathroom for her safety and accessibility.
Daily Living Assistance: Caring for a special needs child leaves little mental capacity for everyday tasks. Additional funds will help Kim and her family cover essential conveniences.
Financial Stability: With Kim's job loss, the family is feeling the financial strain. Donations will provide a safety net for increased expenses related to hospital visits, gas, and meals.
Kim has said that her unwavering faith, the support of her friends, the community, nurses, and doctors, as well as the prayers from strangers, is what is getting her through. Additionally, Kim could never do this without the support of her family, including her loving husband Chris Moore (step dad), Robert Doty (dad), and Diane Doty (step mom). Their help has been a true blessing.
Let's come together as a community to support this incredible family during their time of need. We don’t believe this is the end of Calyne’s story.
We recognize the tremendous strain on everyone's resources, but any contribution, big or small, will make a significant difference in Kim and Calyne’s lives.
Please consider donating and sharing this message with your networks. Thank you for your compassion and generosity.
