Help Offset Calvin’s Surgery Costs

On Sunday, May 4, 2025, Calvin, my 10 year old Golden Retriever stopped eating. At first I wasn’t too concerned because he has always been a picky eater, so it wasn’t abnormal for him to skip a meal. Then early Monday morning he threw up and he skipped dinner again which started to concern me. He proceeded to throw up Tuesday morning and refused to take his morning medication, but he ate a treat. Tuesday afternoon he began to throw up again, so I rushed him to Urgent Vet. They did X-rays and an ultrasound, but it was unclear what was causing the issue. We went to our regular vet Wednesday morning where they proceeded with bloodwork and more X-rays that were sent to a radiologist. It was confirmed he had a stomach obstruction. We were referred to Auburn University Veterinary Hospital where he stayed in IV fluids overnight. They rechecked X-rays Thursday morning with no movement from whatever was obstructing him. They said they could use a scope to try to remove the obstruction that evening, but surgery wasn’t available until Friday and if the scope didn’t remove it, he would have to have surgery. Since Calvin was stable, we elected to wait until Friday to avoid him going anesthesia twice just in case. Friday, they repeated X-rays, still nothing moving, so they proceeded with the scope. Unfortunately, they could not get all the material out of him with the scope, so they proceeded with surgery. Thankfully, the obstruction was successfully removed and Calvin has been recovering well. He has started to eat and even drink while still being on IV fluids. He has become a favorite patient which is not surprising considering his friendly demeanor. Unfortunately, there is no firm date when he will be coming home, but I hope soon. The vet bills have unfortunately started to stack up between the now three vet visits that are still ongoing. No amount is too small and Calvin and I would be incredibly thankful for any help towards paying for these bills.
