My dear friend, Calvin Hayes, has been through a very difficult time during the past month and needs our support. As many of you know, Calvin received a kidney transplant seventeen years ago. Unfortunately, his kidney is failing and he is now enduring dialysis 3 1/2 hours a day, three days a week. This is a lot to deal with by itself, but he experienced a significant set back on February 12. On this Monday evening, he was not feeling well and, as he was fighting to maintain consciousness, he was able to dial 911. Paramedics arrived in four minutes and ten minutes after that, Calvin arrived at Bayview Medical Center. He was quickly taken to the ICU, where he was stabilized. Calvin experienced a heart attack. After spending eight days at the Bayview Medical Center, he was transported to the main Johns Hopkins Hospital. Two days later, he underwent open heart surgery, where a triple bypass was performed. Breathing complications required him to remain intubated for two days longer than normal. This was a very challenging time for Calvin. After five days in the ICU, he was moved back to his hospital room. Except for his stay in the ICU, he has to continue his dialysis treatment. The dialysis sessions can not stop. On March 14, Calvin was moved the Keswick Multi-Care Center, which is a rehabilitation facility affiliated with Johns Hopkins. It will likely be another two to three weeks before Calvin is able to go home.
Calvin is a dear friend to many people and has a long road to recovery. He needs our help. Please give generously, so that we might "stand in the gap" for him!
Sincerely,
Bob Bowen
