On August 13th 2019, this 18 yr old young man and 2019 high school graduate, Chris Hedricks, was on his way up  to the corner store to pick up drinks for the guys working in the hay pastures when he was involved in a horrific crash with a garbage truck. After cutting him out of the car, the firefighters were sure that "he wouldn't make it". The ER doctors thought that he "wouldn't make it past 48hrs". The specialist said that "he would have severe brain damage". They weren't considering that people from all over the world were praying for God to heal and restore Chris to a fully functioning mind and body!
Chris had a severe brain injury, fractures to both arms and legs, open wounds to his shattered right arm, and a collapsed lung . He was in a  coma for 2 weeks, on a ventilator to breathe for him, had a drain and pressure monitor in his brain, a chest tube in his lung,  and required multiple surgeries to repair his broken bones.
While the doctors were giving reports that conveyed the worst prognosis, the nurses were saying, "If he can just get over that hill" and his parents, family, friends, and thousands from around the world who were praying for his miraculous healing were saying "We believe the report of the Lord"! As Chris slowly began to wake up, open his eyes, move a finger, our faith only grew and prayers intensified. Time passed with new movements and responses every day. The doctors admitted that they had never had a patient of that severity who had improved like this. His mother told them "they must have not had so many people praying for their healing"!
Chris started breathing on his own and came off of the ventilator.  He regained more consciousness and was able to nod to questions and show emotions.  He started moving a foot and hand and the day came when he was ready to receive more intensive rehabilitation.
Less than one month after the accident, Chris was transferred to TIRR Rehab In Houston, Tx. In this positive and progressive therapy environment, he has continued his miraculous recovery. He is using a PMV valve on his trach and is talking through it to his family and the staff and will soon be ready to remove the trach, requiring no breathing assistance and we will hear that sweet voice again. He is eating soft foods although he still requires tube feedings to meet his nutritional needs. He is beginning to stand on those previously broken legs and strengthen the muscles which haven't been used since the day of the accident. He had a planned date to be sent home, but that is being extended out because "He's doing so well and progressing so much", they want to get him farther along in such an incredible rehab facility.
Now, we are hearing a completely different report. The doctors are saying that they have never seen a patient with his injuries progress and heal so fast. We know that they have never had a patient with the motovation and determination of Chris Hedricks. We are seeing the awesome, miraculous power of God at work!
Chris will come home to Tyler, Tx and his Dad will continue growing, baling, and delivering hay. His brothers will continue to go to high school with one preparing for graduation in the spring. His mom will be caring for Chris and the rest of the family. Chris will be adjusting to this new life. This young man, who logically should have died in that car, will be working and fighting to get back out in the hay fields, riding horses, and hanging with his friends. WE will still be praying for his TOTAL restoration and will be lifting up this family as they have experienced these life changing events. We help as much as possible. Meals are provided for Dad and  the boys while Chris and Mom are in Houston. We plan fundraisers to help with the ever mounting medical bills that they will be paying for years to come. But we need your help. Anything that you can give to this wonderful family is a blessing. It's true, every dollar counts! The continued care for Chris is not cheap but there is no amount that's too much to have him here with us, getting better every day. Please consider what you are able to give to help Chris and his family and make a difference in his life. May God bless you for your caring gift.
