Hey everyone,
This is weird. I feel weird.
Odds are, if you’re reading this, you’ve known me for at least four years—whether
through school, or CAP, or. . . actually those are the only two places, I think. I don’t get out much.
Point being, for 99% of you, you spent a good deal of time knowing me as a person with a slightly different name, somewhat different pronouns, and a very different haircut.
When I first came out, I said I was excited to go on this journey with y’all. And I’ve really gotta say; I can’t imagine starting this transition with anyone else. Whether you ‘liked’ my coming out post, sent me a congratulatory message despite not having spoken to me in years, or ran through the pews at Sterling Place to tackle/hug me after my senior speech—your support in
all its forms has been incredible, and I’m so blessed to be surrounded by such loving people. I’m grateful for it every day.
The last nine months have been transformative, and life changing. I’ve started on the path to feeling more at home in my body. That path has included a lot of things, like coming out to my community (AKA, you. hi), and starting hormone replacement therapy.
And one of the last stops on this path for me is top surgery. I’m not gonna go into
extensive detail, but basically, it’s a procedure that would give me a flat, masculine chest. More
importantly, it would give me a body that actually feels like mine.
Unfortunately, my insurance won’t cover this surgery. And it’s not something my family
can afford to pay for out of pocket. We’re doing what we can, but realistically, we can’t do this on our own. We need help.
And this is why I feel weird. I’m asking you for money.
I am a meager man of few talents, but one thing I know I can do is write. So, I’ve set up a few rewards if you donate a certain amount—like writing a haiku based on your name (I didn’t say they were going to be good rewards).
Anything will help, and if you can’t donate, I ask that you share this with as many people as you can. It would help me so much.
