Rebuilding Life After Dorian: The Calmas
Donation protected
I want to introduce you to our good friends, Regina and Charles Calma. Born and raised on Abaco in the Bahamas, these two found love and got married a year ago. Aaron and I were so glad we could be there to celebrate!
On September 1st this year, Hurricane Dorian destroyed their home and everything in it. As you know, it leveled the island of Abaco, meaning that my friends now need to build their life from ground zero. It is by the grace of God they’re alive today, and I praise Him for that over and over again.
Unfortunately, they were in their home when the first part of the storm hit. The roof was torn off with them inside, forcing them to take cover under the kitchen cabinets while furniture and building debris were violently flying through the room. When the calm came during the eye of the storm, they ran to the nearest shelter where hundreds of others were huddled for protection. My friends along with Regina’s mother, Enid and sister, Me’Sha were there at the shelter for 4.5 days, and had just enough water and snacks from a US relief group to get them through. They made it safely to Nassau but tragically lost her dear Aunt in the midst of all this. Our hearts are breaking with them as this is the deepest cut of all.
Would you prayerfully consider helping this amazing family get back on their feet? Regina, Charles, Enid and Me’Sha need to build their life back up in a new location and I know we can come together to help them through. They are some of the most generous and kind-hearted people you could EVER get to know. They’re hope and trust is in God alone; and we pray and believe that He will provide all their immediate needs so they can begin to heal and press forward.
Thank you so much for your prayers and generosity. Your support means the world to me, and more importantly, means more to this family than you will ever know.
Here's some more info about how I know Regina and how these funds will be used:
I've known Regina since 2010. We were both Architectural Studies majors at Kent State University and connected immediately. We've kept in touch over the years, never missing life's biggest moments. We feel like sisters and I'm so thankful to have her in my life. She came to my wedding in 2016 and I was lucky to be there for her wedding in the Bahamas in 2018!
These funds will go directly to Regina and her family so they can buy all their basic needs. They need absolutely everything - clothing, food, transportation, a place to live, and everything in between. Your donation will allow them to get back on their feet so they can start living and working again with a new sense of normalcy.
Since Gofundme is not yet able to directly transfer funds to Bahamian bank accounts, I will personally withdraw the funds and will, of course, ensure the family receives 100% of what is given. I will be using PayPal and Western Union to do so. Again, thank you for your generous support!!
