Calmare Therapy for Kelsie

Hey y’all, please bare with me as this is hard for me to do. My family is not one to ask or beg for anything other than prayers but my daughter is in need of this chance for a better quality of life. Some may know but for those who don’t know Kelsie’s story, let me fill you in. On Sept 16th, 2018 my daughter woke up that morning with a headache. We figured it was just a routine thing and didn’t think much about it. After the headache never going away for a week straight we took her in to the ER and that would begin this journey that we have been on for the last almost 5 years. In 2020 after a headache every single day since that day Sept 16, 2018, she was diagnosed with IIH or Pseudotumor Cerebri. After no medication would help they decided to put in a shunt in her brain to help with draining the extra fluid that was building up on her brain which was causing the headaches. In Dec 2020, she had her shunt surgery. She did great and though she still had mild headaches it was bearable and was living life again. Went on to get a certification in phlebotomy. She was finding her way again. Then in August 2021 she got covid, it totally wrecked her body again. She started getting headaches bad again. Her neck was swelling and could not be touched, and then in March of 2022 one day sitting on the couch she dropped the orange out of her hand and was unable to keep it in her hand. She began losing strength and mobility in her right arm. It was numb to the touch, swelling, changing colors, and temperature changes. They had us rush her to the MUSC ER to rule out a stroke and blood clots which they did. Since then they have ran every test they could to see what was going on with her arm. In June after more testing it was diagnosed by her Ortho and agreed upon by her neurologist that she has what is called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome CRPS. After some research we found that CRPS could be caused by a trauma or injury but in some cases surgery. We are unsure if the shunt surgery is the cause but it could be. The drs are at a lost of what to do because there is no cure for CRPS and in fact CRPS can move from limb to limbs and even to organs. Kelsie is starting to present with pain in right leg as well as her other shoulder. We don’t want kelsie relying solely on meds. Kelsie wants to have a life full of adventure and less of pain. Anyone who knows kelsie knows she wears a smile for all the world to see and has a heart of gold. She deserves a chance to live a life most 20 year olds are living. But for now she is forced to adjust her daily activities to being one handed. Her career as a phlebotomist has been put on hold. Her love for children has been altered because she has trouble picking up kids with one hand but she is managing cause she loves her nursery kids at church. Some days she can not get out of bed for the pain in her head arm and body. This is where we need your help! She has an opportunity to go to Greenville for what’s called Calmare Therapy starting August 1st. It is a ten day therapy that includes electrodes to the skin that tricks the brain to a no pain therapy. These sessions are not covered by insurance. The cost of the 10 days of therapy is $2025 with the possibility of needing more than 10 days at $225 a day. Plus being that it would be in Greenville we would have to stay up there for duration of treatments. I did find a nice Airbnb for about $60-$70 a night. This treatment has up to a 90% success rate. The nurse even says there is a strong possibility that Kelsie could be headache free afterwards. We have tried everything. The drs are even at a stand still with treatment for kelsie. As parents and kelsie herself, we do not want her to be dependent on painkillers the rest of life and this gives her that opportunity. I know it’s a lot of money and I promise we wouldn’t ask if we didn’t think it would help kelsie. As parents we just want to help her and see our daughter thrive. But more importantly I believe that God put this before as part of His plan for her and our family! In the waiting we have gained strength, she has gained a voice to advocate for herself, we have learned to put pride aside, and as always are very humble by the love people have shown her and our family! We thank you for any donations and especially we ask for your prayers. For we know that through all things God work things out for our greater good! God bless!
