Callum needs special glasses
Donation protected
Hi All -
My son, Callum, had bilateral acquired pediatric cataracts when he was a year old. The first two surgeries, which happened when he was 17 months old, removed the cataracts in his eyes and left him completely aphakic (without lenses and unable to focus without corrective eyewear). He is legally blind without his glasses. Since that time, he has had an additional surgery, three years of eye therapies and we are forever fighting with insurance companies to cover his medically necessary eyewear. Each pair of glasses is at least $420 dollars and insurance covers one pair every prescription change.
As he goes through pre-k and appraoches kindergarten (next year), in order to keep him safe and enable him to have as normal a childhood as possible, we have realized we need at least three additional pairs of glasses - sports glasses so that he can safely participate in gym class, swim goggles so that he can learn to swim and safely play in the ocean, and an extra pair of glasses in case something happens to the primary. Unfortunately, these are seen as "unnecessary" by the insurance companies and are not covered. With his prescription changing every 3 to 6 months, it is becoming harder and harder to financially support these changes and supply him with the glasses that he needs to allow him to be included, safe and able to participate in general school activities and play groups.
Anything donated would be greatly appreciated and applied to these pairs of prescription glasses (lenses and frames). Thank you so much for your help and/or consideration in advance.
