On 6th December, Callum was playing football in Sheffield, just as he always does, when he suddenly collapsed. He was rushed to Northern General Hospital, and later that evening doctors confirmed the devastating news that he had suffered a Sub Hemmorage along with potential brain aneurysm, and signs of a possible stroke. Not only this, they also found bleeding on his brain. He was transferred to the Royal Hallamshire later that night for emergency surgery.

By the time of his arrival, Royal Hallamshire were unable to perform the surgery. the next morning on 7th December, additional scans showed excessive bleeding and a second, yet-unidentified bleed. After a series of urgent cases causing delays, Callum was taken for emergency surgery finally at lunch time and was told he had a 1 in 3 chance of surviving, a 1 in 3 chance of facing long-term disability, and a 1 in 3 chance of making a good recovery.

Callum made it through the operation, and although things initially looked stable, he was discharged on 10th December. Unfortunately, the next morning he deteriorated and had to be transferred back to Barnsley Hospital. He is now awaiting his fourth scan, as his third scan could not confirm whether the bleeding has restarted.

This has been an incredibly frightening and overwhelming time for Callum and everyone who loves him. His recovery will be long, uncertain, and emotionally and financially challenging.

This fundraiser has been set up to support Callum, and his household to support with the unexpected costs that come with a medical emergency of this scale — including a minimum of 3 months off work having just bought his first house with his partner and ongoing care needs as he continues to fight his way back to stability.
