Callout for Chucky
Dear Friends,
After much thought and discussion we swallow a small amount of pride and reach out to the community for help affording to fix our Rescued Working Dog “Chucky”.
4 days ago our beloved, slightly quirky, Maremma “Chucky” was unfortunately involved in a hit and run incident on the road outside a paddock, which he guards our Free Range Hen flock. Chucky guards the chooks from predators, mainly foxes and we believe he has ventured outside the boundary chasing a fox, which has attempted to poach one of his chooks.
We adopted Chucky 1 year ago. His path through life thusfar has been the road less travelled. Guarding famous flocks of Free Range Chooks to a member of the cast in the movie Oddball to becoming a central star on Hughesy and Kate’s “Men and Mongrels” rescue dog calendar this year. It’s in his nature to love and protect people and other animals. He’s a crowd favourite and we love him to bits.
Chucks is such a unique character, his nickname at home is The Cuddle Monster.
When we found him busted up in a ditch on the side of the road, we rushed him into the local vets. After 3 days of no progress and one extremely sad option on the table looking likely, we reached out for the best vet in business, jumped in the car, drove him 3 hours down to Emergency in Melbourne, where we received the best news. Chucky could be saved!
Scans and X-rays show multiple fractured bones in and around his pelvic floor. He currently cannot standup by himself and is also having difficulty passing faeces and urine. His 2 vet clinic bills so far have reached $5,000 combined.
Every day is $1,000 at the specialist, but we believe worth it for our Chucky.
It’s currently a wait and see, but we are told some dogs take days, some weeks.
We are currently hoping to reach $10k to help get Chucks back on his feet.
If you’re in a position to help any amount of support would mean the world!
Chucky lives ❤️
