Angels, meet Charlie!
The first 10 years of Charlie’s life was filled with abuse and neglect before he ultimately landed in a high-kill animal shelter in Los Angeles. During his time in the shelter, there wasn’t a single person who asked about him. Not one. So he was scheduled to be euthanized.

Although we don’t know Charlie’s history, it’s clear that he has suffered for a long time. He was infested with fleas for such a long time that he had anemia. He was seriously underweight, his ears were full of debris, he had a double ear infection, a skin infection and a double eye infection. His back legs have reduced mobility from being stuck in a space that was too small for him and his front teeth were worn down completely from him trying to escape. To top it off, he had a cyst on his arm that had grown so large that it had burst open.

K911 Resq pulled Charlie from the shelter, placed him with us to foster, and provided the medical attention that he desperately needed. After a few weeks, he began to look better and definitely feel better. He was acting like a much younger boy…playful, energetic and full of life!

Charlie has started trusting and accepting affection more too. He went from flinching when we’d pet him to rolling over for belly rubs and giving kisses!

Charlie is resilient and as he opens up more and more, we see his huge capacity for love. And we fell in love with him. We officially adopted him in December!

Charlie deserves to live out the rest of his days carefree, but life continues to throw him curve balls. In early February, we noticed a lump start to form on his leg in the same area as his previous wound. We took him to the vet to have it removed, but unfortunately it wasn’t so simple. A biopsy came back and confirmed it is a soft tissue sarcoma… cancer.
After consulting with an oncologist, the progonosis is very good. Treatment would be surgery followed by 18 rounds of radiation. The side effects would be minimal and there would be less than a 10% chance that it would return. Great news!!
Then we got the estimates...one estimate for surgery, and a second for the radiation, which totaled $15,000 for the full treatment... to be paid at the time of service.

Our hearts sunk. After everything that Charlie has been through, he is finally enjoying his life, but we can’t possibly afford that treatment. Armed with my computer and cell phone, I spent days doing research, calling around, and looking for any alternative or option to reduce the cost of the treatment. Luckily, I spoke with the wonderful team at WSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital who are willing to do the radiation portion of the treatment (which was $11,000 of the original estimate) for half price! With that savings, the total treatment would go down to $10,000, which is extremely helpful, but still more than we can afford. In the meantime, Charlie’s mass is getting bigger…we are out of time.

WE NEED YOU ANGELS!!
We would be so grateful for any donation, in any amount. It would go such a long way to help us cover the costs of Charlie’s cancer treatment!
All donations will go directly to the cost for Charlie’s treatment.
If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing Charlie’s story!
Please help Charlie live the life that he was always meant to have!
THANK YOU!!
