Hi, we are Team Calli, and we are fundraising for her. Calli Moore is a 15-year-old girl who just started her first year at Clear Springs High School. She’s a very driven, athletic cross-country and track runner (former cheerleader, volleyball player, basketball player, and golfer). Calli is also a straight-A honor student and an all-around leader. On October 3, 2022, she came home from school and felt quite sick and lethargic. She thought she was exhausted from her daily early morning cross-country runs and demanding high school schedule. She got some rest at home on Tuesday, but by Wednesday, she still felt very sick, had a prominent cough, and swelling in her neck. She went to the pediatrician, who ordered blood work and neck ultrasound. While waiting a day for the blood results to return, the swelling in her face had gotten worse, and by Friday morning, her entire face was swollen. So, on Friday, October 7th, she went to an ER in League City. After receiving the results from her blood work, the doctors instructed her to go directly to Texas Children’s Hospital, where she quickly landed in the ICU. Calli’s diagnosis was confirmed as Precursor T-Cell Leukemia. The news was devastating, and she had to start chemotherapy in the ICU immediately. There was no time for the delay because of the aggressiveness of the disease. She was also diagnosed with a mediastinal mass (tumor in her chest), restricting her airway, making breathing difficult, and possibly putting pressure on her heart. In addition, her vocal cord was paralyzed.
She remained in the hospital getting chemotherapy every few days and just completed her fourth round of chemotherapy (10/28/22). The good news is that the chest tumor is showing shrinkage. She also had a lumbar puncture procedure, which showed no signs of Leukemia in her spinal fluid (which is also good news). However, her stomach pain has been unbearable and affecting her eating ability, and she has lost a significant amount of weight.
Calli has a long fight ahead, but she is a natural fighter. As an athletic girl, she has learned to push through the pain and demanding challenges, but this has been her most formidable challenge ever. It has been very rough on her physically and emotionally, but we know if anyone can persevere and become a stronger person, Calli can!
It has become evident that her first year of high school will not be as initially planned. Her hair will, unfortunately, fall out, her body will become weakened, and she won’t be able to run cross country and track, attend school with her friends or be at the fun group activities that come with being a new high school student. That will all have to wait. She will get homeschooled for now to get caught up on her studies while she receives frequent chemotherapy and other treatments.
We are hopeful this GoFundMe will allow Calli’s family to spend less time worrying and focusing more on beautiful, sweet Calli and her healing.
