A message from our heart,
This past year, our dear friend Mai was diagnosed with cancer of the uterus. Born and raised in Palestine, Mai lives with her young daughter in the West Bank and is devoted to working on peace building projects in the region.
It took Mai a long time to share her diagnosis with us. She was afraid that she wouldn’t be able to stay strong and that if the news spread, it would be harder to get work, a task already difficult in the West Bank especially as an activist, and made even worse by Covid-19. After losing her mother to chemotherapy four years ago, Mai chose and is receiving a combination of chemotherapy and alternative Japanese medicine. Until now, she has relied on a bank loan to support herself. However, her treatment must continue and the bank has refused to approve another loan due to her health and the fact that she is unable to work regularly. While she continues to search for enough work, it has become impossible to pay for treatment, her daughter’s school, and rent. Mai is an incredibly hard-working, selfless, independent, and courageous woman who we love and care for deeply. In our best effort to support her, we are reaching out to our wider circles for help. Any contribution will make a difference.
Mai is in need of $18,000 for medications and treatment for the next 6 months, $2,800 for an upcoming surgery, and $7,600 for rent and to continue sending her daughter to school.
We are friends of Mai and will ensure that every cent received goes directly to her through bank transfer.
From Mai:
Dear beautiful souls I have met and have yet to meet,
I am constantly surprised by these strange and difficult days we are all living now. They have brought us a new global shared reality, and from this, we are reconnecting to the value of community. At the same time, I have been shaken and shocked by the vulnerability of my body. To continue on the path of healing, I find myself now with no other choice but to ask for your support and to rely on the power of community. I wish to not be alone in this anymore, for a circle of companions-in-heart to walk this path with me. I am in deep gratitude of any assistance and for your kindness.
