Help Us Keep Jacob Seizure Free!!!
All of us that have partnered with Jacob standing against Streptococcus A Meningitis attack have come a long way, BUT our fight is not over. When a tsunami hits, immediate assistance is needed to get everyone safe THEN the rebuild/restoration and Maintenance/Prevention comes…

“It takes a village” it always has and we are calling on the village! Jacob is safe but we have to continue to partner with him to keep him safe. SQUASH is a huge component of Jake staying healthy. I Partnered long ago as his Sister/Keeper as we are each others guardians. Mandatory things Jake needs that squash provides:
Stress Free
Healthy Eating
10-12 hours of sleep daily
Daily Exercise That produces FMDC5
Cognitive Stimulation

Become a partner in the journey. God-Family- Health- Academics-Squash!!! It’s On!! Here is a bit of our backstory.

(Piera is speaking)
You see, about 6 and half years ago, Jacob was in the ICU. He suffered a traumatic brain injury caused by a rare meningitis. It infected his brain causing damage that made him paralyzed, put him in a comma and started to shut down his organs. The hospital went into immediate quareenten. Antibiotics, pain medicine, breathing machine and an emergency triple surgery happened in less than 24 hours. God and an amazing team of doctors at Kaiser Roseville plus prayers from around the world kept Jake here and fighting. It took a village then and the fight to recovery every day since then has taken the support of an ever changing village membership. Our mom was told that he would most likely never walk again and never be able to go to a full day of school. But God made the way and His plan is still in the works of being completed.

Six months after the brain trauma, multiple hospitals, doctors, MRIs, therapists Jake and I returned to school where our future coach, Lauren Patrizio introduced herself and squash to our mom. She asked if we would participate in her community program, SquashDrive. We were the first two members to sign on. We began our journey into the squash world with community squash program at BMA.

(Jacob)
Piera partnered with me in spirit, life, squash and academics (God always present) to overcome all of the things the doctors said I would never be able to do again. There is a lot to tell but we are telling the squash side. I don’t remember all the details honestly. Maybe because of the comma… I remember not being able to walk, move my arm, read or write when I could do it a few weeks before this happened. I remember hating the tube down my throat.I remember wanting to eat food and candy. I remember lots of people from church visiting including Pastor Rick, my family friends and neighbors. I remember losing so much weight and missing skateboarding, I was just getting sponsored when all this happened. The Infectious disease doctor figured out I didn’t have the strep antibody that’s how I got Streptococcus Meningitis A. I don’t think I will ever forget that because after all I went through. I never developed it, so strep throat is still a danger to me. It doesn’t matter because our experience is victory with God. They were all wrong. It’s been a long fight, it’s not over, we are still going and won’t quit. We still call out to the Village to join to Victory. It won’t stop with us. You see, I became fully restored with the gift of squash, Piera and I became a stronger team. Squash Drive was originally through 8th grade program. Piera and I didn’t wanna stop playing and some others going on to high school so they grew there program so we could continue. We found out at the junior level competition was intense and very challenging. We also discovered that our competitors have private coaching for 1-2 hours 4-6 days a week plus individual practice time, clinics and more… so, if we wanted to compete at that level we had to find a way to get to these additional training. It took 3 years of fundraising and waiting for a coach because all of the Private Coaches were totally booked up in the Bay Area. We always have Squash Drive as our base, thank God! And we are truly grateful for the amazing academic support and the court time that we get 3 times a week at Squash Drive practice. SquashDrive has always been there for Jake and I, now we work to to our squash experience by supplementing. We got private instructor the end of Oct 2017. Then we tried out for “Gold Academy” but we didn’t get accepted. We were accepted into “Silver Academy” instead. We have to drive 2 hours each way to Santa Clara for the clinic. With in Two months we worked our way up! Jan we tried out for “Gold Academy” and this time we got in!! We are committed and dedicated to Squash Drive and the extra work to get to the next level. We will continue to make the village proud. Just Watch!

(Piera talking)
The past few years, we have been diligently seeking training to get to the collegiate level of competition and we have learned about many scholarship opportunities for this level. Squash Drive has continued to open doors and give me academic exposure as well as connect me with college Coaches to help reach our dream goal. With schools like UPenn, Drexel, George Washington, Princeton, Brown and so many more. Scholarships for up to 70k a year are available. So we learned about the option to play squash at the collegiate level and what it took to earn a place on these higher learning schools. We didn't and we still don’t ask why these things have happened to us. What we know is that we have had experience after experience with God and we have grown stronger with each challenge. So we work harder, dig deeper and keep pressing. My Mom uses the word grit, I thought it was weird at first but now i get it, The last thing Jake and I want to do is quit. We have been working really hard to get better and we believe that we can go far and share our light and experience in to the world around us. Playing college squash, working really hard to be at nationals or take first in Gold Tournaments is only the beginning. With all this effort comes coaching and private lessons and help in many areas.

We do fundraising daily. We gather cans and recyclable bottles, sale candy, sale gourmet cupcakes, sale gourmet candy apples,T-shirts, raffles, book sales and we still continue to fundraise to support the path that God has put us on. God has continued to provide for us and make opportunities for us.

(Jacob talking)
This is crunch time, college is less than one year away for Piera and two years away for me and we have nine months to make a difference. Because of the short time we are now reaching out and asking for help.

So, please help us make our dream come true and get every opportunity of training and skill going into the new season to get our rankings at collegiate level scholarship competition .
