Calling for help - Deadly Floods in South Brazil

Hi everyone,

I come today to ask for your help! My beautiful state in the south of Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul, is currently going thought one of the biggest natural disasters ever experienced in the country. The intense rain has caused unmanageable floods which made the area submerged in water for the past three weeks.

- 581,000 thousand people have been affected by this natural disaster and had to flee their homes.

- So far, sadly, we have had 169 deaths.

- There are still 56 people missing.

I am so very grateful that my family is alive and safe. However, 13 of them have lost pretty much everything they had due to 3 meter high water on their properties. Among the rest of the population, they were forced to flee their homes in the middle of the night, while the water raised and destroyed everything.

Some of my cousins have been volunteering since the tragedy started. They were originally helping the rescue groups for people and animals, and at this stage they are going from house to house, helping people to clean up what is left.

The state looks like a war zone, and unfortunately the government is only doing so much. At the moment, all they are offering is the equivalent of 1,450 AUD per household, which honestly cannot get you really far if you are starting from zero.

It’s heartbreaking to watch their pain and not be there to help. For that reason, I have created this fundraiser in the hope to bring some comfort and assist some of the affected families. The idea is that a portion of the funds will go to my family, to help them and cover the expenses they are taking on while volunteering, but also give them the opportunity to financially support the other families that they come across.
