This call to action is a last ditch attempt by the Wunderpus team to try and keep all of our Indonesian crew and their families safe and healthy for a little longer during this worldwide crisis. Many of these guys you will have met during your time with us and they are all like family to us after working side by side for so long.
Since the pandemic began affecting tourism in Komodo 14 months ago we have tried everything possible to keep our team together and our full staff on salary and healthcare benefits in a country that has no meaningful support strategy for these guys or their families.
So far we have managed to do this, we have thrown caution to the wind and despite 8 months of zero income as a company and over the past few months just a handful of trips at greatly reduced prices aimed purely at covering basic cost and covering salaries for the crew.
Sadly, with no sure end in sight to the pandemic and no guarantee when international travel will resume at any level, we as a company have reached a point where the toughest decision of our time operating has become necessary. To ensure the survival of our business and to at least be able to help some of our team continue we will have to reduce our local Indonesian staff levels from 20 to just 8. This is a heart wrenching decision for us and one we are willing to do anything to avoid, hence starting this GoFundMe page.
Let me be clear though, this campaign is created solely for our Indonesian staff, as a company we can survive this and will survive this but to do this means decreasing our staff to minimal levels and letting go of people who are like family to us to face an uncertain future.
We have been overwhelmed by people’s messages and support from around the world since the COVID19 pandemic began. So any guests who would like to send a donation to help us keep all our crew on salary and healthcare benefits for as long as possible please do so here.
Whatever is raised through this platform will be divided equally between the 20 Indonesian crew of Mimic, Wunderpus and the office staff and we thank each and every one of you who donates.
