Amy is a magical, hilarious, talented, and loving single mother of two teenage girls.
In 2014 Amy was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer. The prognosis is usually 3-6 months. The disease was found in the liver, spine, lungs, leg, hip and lymph nodes.
Overnight, everything she knew was turned upside down.
Amy, and everyone around her was shocked and overwhelmed, but Amy found the strength to fight.
Amy’s life has been a miracle every day since!
While only 1% of Stage 4 Breast Cancer patients survive past six-months, Amy is here, 5 miraculous years down the line, as positive and full of hope for her future as ever. She has overcome a series of painful, life-threatening cancer hurdles, including surgeries and excruciating treatments. Amy made it through each with flying colors. She continues to amaze her team of doctors and delight her family and friends by beating all the odds.
But with Stage 4 cancer one is never out of the woods.
A few weeks ago, Amy began experiencing headaches, memory loss, disorientation, confusion and imbalance. She somehow drove herself to the ER where she was rushed into a CT scan. It revealed a large, life threatening brain tumor, caused by breast cancer, which metastasized (spread) into the brain. The tumor caused massive swelling.
Without immediate care, she had little time left.
Four days later, neurosurgery doctors at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles performed an 8-hour, life-saving brain surgery. It was largely successful, but the entire tumor could not be removed.
In addition to recovering from this difficult surgery, Amy is now undergoing a fourth round of targeted brain radiation to eradicate anything remaining.
The daily challenges keep coming.
Through it all, Amy has worked as much as possible—and even found ways to give back. She is now an advocate for early detection, speaks at major cancer fundraising events to tell her story and has appeared in PSAs for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Given the severity of this illness, ongoing and new treatments, side effects and constant trips to the doctor, Amy cannot cover basic expenses like food, rent, utilities or her car.
Isabella and Sofia, Amy’s daughters, continue to contribute to household expenses from their part-time jobs. In addition to attending High School and helping with Amy’s regular care, the love and support they give to their Mom is remarkable.
For 5 years, Amy has had financial help from intimate family and friends. While this support has helped her focus on healing, raising her daughters and keeping the pieces of this complex puzzle together for as long as she has, making ends meet grows increasingly more difficult.
Now, 5 years in, we are asking for your help in making this miracle continue.
Amy continues to embody positivity with an astonishing ability to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds. Yet there comes a time when expanding the circle of help is needed. This is that time.
Our goal is to cover Amy’s living expenses until she is back on her feet from this surgery and radiation. We want to raise enough money to cover a year of basic expenses. This would allow Amy to focus on the new treatment regimen while continuing to heal.
It has and will be a long road. Amy’s focus on the future for herself and her daughters keeps her thriving despite the struggles she continues to miraculously overcome every day.
