Callie's Journey Through Painful Surgeries
Donation protected
Hello friends and loved ones,
As some of you know, my sweet Callie was born with numerous skeletal issues, including osteogenesis imperfecta. This means soft bones, unfused bones, and she even has five missing adult teeth. She is under care for all of these; she sees a team of orthopedic doctors at TOC Huntsville, physical therapists, an orthodontist, and we will be seeing an oral surgeon soon as well to discuss her teeth.
I’m writing today due to Callie having what’s called a congenital pseudoarthrosis of the clavicle; this has to do with her bones never fusing whilst in utero. We found it while she was very young, and at that time, it was not a cause for issue. As she got older and started growing, she began experiencing pain with even the slightest touch. The bone also began growing outwards instead of horizontally. Due to this, she has had to undergo five surgical procedures in the past two and a half years, and we are now looking at having to go through another. The doctors believe she has an infection on the titanium plate holding her bone together and therefore it must be removed.
In 2023, Callie had her first surgery, hoping to correct this issue. That surgery failed; she had another in March of 2024, July of 2024, and again in October of 2024. Her most recent was this past February, and it seems that this has failed as well. We have attempted to correct it as she deals with so much pain her arm is essentially rendered useless when it is at its worst. Callie deals with nerve pain on a regular basis and has been through so much in such a short period of time, yet she is such a happy and positive little girl. Unfortunately, due to this condition, she is unable to do many things that a child should be able to. Her doctors cannot clear her for travel, she cannot participate in gym with her friends and play on the playground, and she cannot ride the horses that she loves so much.
As a single mother, I am currently working two jobs and am in the market for a third. Having so many procedures done in such a short time period has not been an inexpensive venture, but it has been completely necessary for my daughter’s quality of life. The bill for these surgeries is not cheap, and while I have a bad habit of not asking for help, I am spread way too thin and am at a loss as to how I will make this one work. I take no pride in asking for donations to help; however, I’m not sure where else to turn as it’s just myself taking on the financial responsibility. Every dollar donated will go to this upcoming surgery or a previous bill for one.
I appreciate the time you’ve taken to read this even if you’re unable to donate anything. Well wishes and prayers are welcomed as well. ❤️
