Call Me Back - Jhanai Scott's Thesis Film

"After over a year of no contact with her father, Kendra must navigate through her repressed childhood trauma and harbored resentment that reemerges when he tries to re-enter her life."

Call Me Back is a senior thesis film written and directed by Jhanai Scott.

Oftentimes, films portray stories of abuse through black eyes and battered faces, but they fail to show the significance and impact that verbal and emotional abuse have on an individual as well. Call Me Back is a story about the seemingly small traumas throughout life that eventually build up and follow us throughout our lives. The film involves an all black cast, providing the representation that has been lacking from the media.

Call Me Back is about all the things left unsaid. It deals with topics of grief, loss, and forgiveness, and the complexities that come with it. Life is short, and it's important to say all that you need to say before it's too late. If the time were to run out tomorrow, did you say all that you needed to say today?

About the Director/Writer:
Jhanai Alexis is currently a Senior pursuing a BFA in Film and Television and a minor in Producing at New York University. She is a first generation Jamaican-American born in the Bronx and raised in Wappinger Falls. She is a producer, director, writer, dancer and SAG-AFTRA member with a passion for all arts. She has interned for Ken Davenport, assisting the Stage Management team and director Donna Feore on Griswold’s Broadway Vacation. She has also worked with director and producer Eli Kabillio on “Synchrony Life: Employee Stories,” and has written, directed and produced a multitude of student films during her time at NYU. Her goal is to create a universal diary through her work that tells meaningful stories for her audience members to relate to and resonate with.

Our crowdfunding goal is $8,000 which will be used primarily for transportation of crew, cast and equipment, as well as feeding the cast and crew. It will also be used to cover set decor, props, costume, and any other rentals. If you are unable to make a donation, even just sharing this with your family and friends would mean a lot!

We hope that you resonate with this story and will join us in bringing this senior thesis film to life!
