Our sweet girl had been sick for 2 days and she was just not acting herself. After a trip to our local vet and X-rays, we were reassured it was just a bad stomach virus and fluids and medication would help and she should be feeling better by the next day. The next day came and Cali had just gotten worse. She didn’t give me my 5am wakeup call like she normally does and I woke up to find her sleeping alone in the living room where she had been the night before. She wouldn’t eat, water just came right back up, and she wouldn’t get up to walk. She also had no interest in her favorite things- going outside to people watch in the morning and peanut butter. We knew she wasn’t ok so we returned back to our local vet. After more tests they came up with nothing. They knew we had a very sick dog and needed emergency care that day. She had now been vomiting for over 48 hours, spiked a fever, couldn’t walk and was very lethargic. After hours at the emergency vet, they found a possible foreign body in her stomach and surgery was happening within the next few hours. She pulled through like we knew she would. She’s had some setbacks along the way and unfortunately has to stay in the ICU. She was supposed to come home to us today February 1st, but she had to have a nasogastric tube placed due to the fact that she is still vomiting. She is in good spirits and has some good energy and we are hopeful she will be home in the next day or two. The price tag to keep her healthy and here with us is far beyond what we imagined. We appreciate everyone’s prayers and well wishes. Myself, Luis and the kids just want our baby to come home!
