California Federation of Interpreters Strike Fund

 

California Federation of Interpreters Local 39000 TNG-CWA is a Labor Union representing all California court Interpreter employees throughout the state. Most of the members we represent are foreign-born women, many of whom are single parents, providing language access to justice for Limited English Proficient individuals (LEPs) living in our diverse communities. For years, we have faced union bashing tactics at the bargaining table from the California court administrators who neither value us as highly skilled professionals nor the LEP persons we serve.

After over a year of bargaining meetings, San Francisco Bay Area court administrators refuse to bring our wages up to a livable level. The language access budget has plenty of funds to lift our Bay Area members out of the poverty line and is not being used.

Our members are always the smallest represented unit in any California court. We are starting Bargaining in the Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo areas -Region 1- And in the San Diego, Orange County, Riverside Areal -Region 4-. We need allies to help us fight against the courts in California at the bargaining table; we need your help to continue to provide access to justice for LEPs – whether they be a victim, defendant, witness, or other persons using the judiciary. Please help us protect meaningful language access. Help us afford to continue being employed in this profession. We will need to engage in (walkouts), but our funding is limited. Please join us by donating whatever you can so we can continue our fight to protect Union-represented jobs and preserve the stable, permanent workforce of highly skilled individuals in the justice system. Together we will bring down this anti-union Goliath.
