California Carnivores Farm

We have a big announcement – one we are thrilled we can finally talk about!

It has been our great pleasure to work tirelessly over decades, nurturing the carnivorous plant hobby from the tiny seedling it was 35 years ago into a true Golden Age of carnivorous plants. Any labor of love is subject to challenges, and that is especially true for small businesses. Over the past few years, we realized that California Carnivores itself had become pot-bound. We have outgrown our beloved greenhouse, and we need more space if we want to make all of our horticultural aspirations a reality. So, what did we do?

We purchased our dream property, to move the nursery to and expand! It’s going to be a place where we can really lay down deep roots and take our business to a whole new level.

We couldn’t have done any of this without you, our wonderful community, and we’re so deeply grateful for all the support that you have given to us and our magical carnivorous plant farm. If you’ve been impressed with what we’ve done so far, we know you’re going to be blown away by what we do next! Our new location is many times bigger than where we are now, and we have exciting plans for building a complex of greenhouses that will allow us to expand on all fronts.

For starters, we’re planning an entire Western Australian House for Cephalotus, Tuberous & Pygmy Drosera, and Byblis. Damon will finally have the space to grow out all of his Ping hybrids! Do you like Lilac Lolipop and Queen Cthulu? Well, he has over 30 new cyclosecta crosses alone to sow once we get the new PingTopia built! And we will have space to devote an entire greenhouse for our Venus Flytrap breeding program. That means way more of Damon’s giant monster cultivars. We’re going to have 3-4” traps on these things before you know it!

We’ve been cranking out Nepenthes edwardsiana hybrids for the last two years but we’re going to need an ultra-highland greenhouse to grow them all out for you guys. Additionally, Damon has been updating our collection like crazy with new plants from all over the world and we want to get them into your collections too. We’re going to lead you down other bizarre yet beautiful botanical rabbit holes too – Ariocarpus, Coryanthes, Disa, bog orchids, and Stylidium just to name a few!

Many of you may already be thinking, how can I help this happen? We’re glad you asked! It’s going to be a ton of work but there are lots of ways you can support us during this huge transition and exciting period of growth:

You can buy plants! Our Green Friday sale is a Moving sale this year. We know you don’t need any justification to buy more plants but every plant you buy is a plant we don’t have to move.

You can now sponsor us on Instagram and YouTube as well! The silver lining of closing to the public was that it gave us the time to really connect with the entire online carnivorous plant community! We’ve made a ton of new friends in the last three years and we want to bring all of you with us while we repurpose our new property into a state-of-the-art carnivorous plant nursery. Subscribing to our social media pages gives you access to more content and more of us; a win-win! You will get behind-the-scenes updates as Damon designs and builds our new facilities, as well as the ability to influence which specialty how-to’s and tutorials we film over the next year. Best of all, Damon and Daniela will host live Q&A’s where you can get your questions answered directly! We’ll bring all your other favorite growers on too to share their tips and passion as well!

Over the years, California Carnivores has built a loyal following of the best people who love and appreciate our work as much as we do. If we have taught you to see the beauty in these fantastic plants and brought botanical joy into your life, now is a great time to give a little back! You can donate to our project directly through our GoFundMe, and every little bit helps. Let’s make all of our carnivorous plant dreams come true - together!
