Thank you for your care and concern for Caley, Nicholas, and the sweet and courageous baby Landon. We hope this assists them with lodging, transportation, food and expenses while Landon receives care at Nicklaus Children's Hospital. They are so appreciative of the outpouring of support and your continued prayers for complete healing and strength for all of them. Below is the update shared by Caley on 5/14:

"Landon Jean was born on May 8th 2023 at 5:12 AM

8’2 and 21.5 in. Shortly after we got to hold him and love him, he began to show signs of respiratory distress. Due to the keen observations of my sister and JMC staff, and their quick interventions, by lunchtime, the decision had been made to air lift him to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami.

After a brief NICU stay and higher acuity care, he was moved to PICU so that he could receive the highest level of heart-lung support for PPHN (Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn) called ECMO. If you want further explanation of this special kind of terror, Google…

Since Wednesday, the ECMO machine has acted as a temporary stand-in heart and lungs to oxygenate his body to allow HIS heart and lungs to rest and recover and give his body time to resolve the PPHN.

If you Google PPHN, you will find that this is typically a totally random event. Landon did not aspirate at birth. I had no risk factors. But the vessel that is supposed to relax automatically at birth so the baby can start breathing instead of get oxygen from the placenta, didn’t do that for him. Thank goodness for miracles and modern science. His life has been saved multiple times by the swift actions of the incredible teams down here, and literally kept alive moment-to-moment since he was two hours old.

Landon is overcoming the odds and is weaning off of support each day.

We still have a long road ahead of us. We’re looking at weeks more down here under the deft care of the Nicklaus Children staff. The support thus far has been overwhelming. God has put angels in our path daily, and sometimes hourly."
