Caleeb Clark's Computer Construction
Donation protected
Hey everyone! I have been involved with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Atlanta for the past year now, and my mentee (i.e., "little brother"), Caleeb, and I are looking to build a computer together for him to keep. Back in July of 2022, we participated in a build-a-bike workshop, and though we are not huge fans of bikes, the workshop inspired us to think of what else we could work on building together. Caleeb has always been interested in computers -- in fact, he accompanies me to my research lab every other weekend and is fascinated by the computers we have built there -- so, we thought it could be a great project for us to work on together to build his very own computer.
However, instead of immediately reaching out to friends and seeing if I could put together enough funds to support this endeavor, I decided that it would be of benefit to him to learn the entire engineering process: when you have an idea in the real world, you have to convince your company, funding agencies, etc. to fund your idea. So, I decided to task him with putting together a technical proposal detailing his desire to build a computer, his reasoning, and his plan of action. I am very proud of what he has put together over these past few months, and I think you will be quite impressed as well.
Here is a link to the proposal: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1XdhFSBqLKnfMZ9N3QIwkpAJsO_Pvk6AP4JaYeL9pJDM/edit?usp=sharing
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions! Also, I would really appreciate it if you could leave some words of encouragement for Caleeb regarding your impressions of his proposal. I would love to show him the fruits of long-term labor.
