Caleb's Heart Fundraiser

Caleb's Heart story began at his 20 week ultrasound in May 2021. Caleb was diagnosed with: Pulmonary Atresia, AV Heart Canal Defect, and DORV (double outlet right ventricle). While this news was heartbreakingly difficult to absorb and understand, His parents Danny and Tracie prayerfully sought a path for Caleb's best chances of delivery and survival. Medical teams were quickly assembled from UCI, Children's Hospital of Orange County, and UCLA's Mattel Children's Hospital.

On September 22, 2021, Danny and Tracie and two year old sister, Eleanor Shaw excitedly embraced the arrival of their baby boy. Caleb was born at UCI and treated at both CHOC and UCLA. Danny and Tracie are deeply touched by the medical care and compassion of all medical staff from all three hospitals and every individual prayer on behalf of their baby.

Caleb's first 48 hours would be critical; his parents were given precious few minutes to bond with him before being taken to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for life saving medication to keep his vessel (ductus arteriosus) open allowing breathing and blood flow from his heart to his lungs. While this fix was ideal, it is only temporary. Caleb underwent the procedure successfully and is currently waiting for the timing of his first open heart surgery.

Next Steps:

Caleb's anticipated heart surgery will take place when he grows to a point where his oxygen saturation levels drop to 75%. Cardiologist believe Caleb's heart reconstruction surgery will be problematic and, possibly, unsuccessful. Even so, we are prayerful and hopeful that there will be a good outcome!

This Go Fund Me is to extend an opportunity to those who have inquired on how they can emotionally and financially assist Danny and Tracie. Currently, Caleb's medical cost now exceed $1,000,000.00. Thankfully, insurance is absorbing a bulk of the cost, however Danny and Tracie are still required to pay $13,000.00, out of pocket per year. 2022 will reset that amount and add an additional expenditure of $13,000.00 for Caleb's continuing medical care and upcoming surgery.
