August 28th, our Caleb collapsed. Full cardiac arrest. His heart stopped over and over and over. Losing count of the shocks that failed, full life support began. Heart failed. Lungs failed. Kidneys failed. Doctors doubted his brain function. But his story doesn't end there ...
45 days in the ICU. He was on ECMO (full heart and lung life support), CRT (full kidney support), intubated on full ventilator (lung support), brain wave monitoring and countless iv medications. They air evacuated him to a cardiac intensive care unit, to receive an even higher level of care.
Survival from his extensive cardiac arrest is extremely rare. (like 2-8%) A perfectly functioning brain after the severity of his heart failure earned him the name 'boy wonder.' The doctors use the term 'miracle' all the time around here. Today, he is off ALL life support. Breathing on his own. Walking. Talking. AND GOING HOME! Overcoming heart failure one beat at a time.
Since forever, he has dreamed of flying as a missionary pilot. At age 13, he took his first lesson and his smile says it all. In the hospital, he refused to let go of his dream. His medical team officially shared that he indeed will be able to become a pilot. Cardiac arrest couldn't stop him.
All that Caleb has overcome, deserves a celebration of epic proportion. Thanks to Covid, we can't gather in person. But we can come together to give Caleb the best gift of all, his heart's desire to fly! 100% of donations will go directly to pay for Caleb's flight school, his flight instruction hours, and ultimately his pilot's license.
Even young folk in their prime stumble and fall. But those who wait upon God get fresh strength. They spread their wings and SOAR like eagles. - Isaiah 40:31
Thank you for being a part of his story. Thank you for your prayers as Caleb journeys to full recovery. Thank you for joining the celebration and donating to his dreams.
