This page is being set up by the family of Caleb Clewis. He will be 23 years young on May 14th. Over the past couple of years, Caleb started having digestive issues and lost a significant amount of weight. Doctors thought he had IBS and recommended that he adjust his diet accordingly. This only helped contribute to his weight loss, but the digestive issues continued. Caleb began to have some dizzy spells and feeling faint, along with increased stomach pain. As you can imagine, this has interfered with his day-to-day home and work life.
Last week, while at work, Caleb experienced another bout of feeling faint and dizzy. Luckily, his employer called for an ambulance, and he was taken to Kings Mountain Hospital. This is when Caleb’s world, as well as all those who love him, changed.
Caleb spent three days in the hospital. The doctors found him to be EXTREMELY anemic. In order to find the root cause of his issue, an endoscopy and colonoscopy were performed. During the procedure, the doctor discovered thousands of polyps in Caleb’s colon, intestines and stomach. It turns out that this is a genetic condition called Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP). To learn more about FAP follow the link at the bottom of the page.
This is all new to us and we are learning more about Caleb’s diagnosis and course of action as we go. The doctor informed us that Caleb will need an operation to remove his colon. As devasting as this news has been to absorb, we are not sure at this point if chemotherapy or something along that line will be required. We do know his treatment will be extensive. Our primary goal is to make sure Caleb receives all the necessary treatments to preserve and enhance his life with the best possible outcome.
The funds collected will benefit Caleb through enabling him to receive necessary treatments, helping with hospitalization and doctor fees and other medical expenses that may occur during his path to life and health. We have enlisted the help of a third party in the management of collected funds to ensure that integrity is maintained at the highest standard administratively.
Caleb has one of the biggest hearts of anyone you will meet. He consistently thinks of his younger brothers and sister and their needs above his own. This does not just apply to his siblings, but he is also considerate and thoughtful of others every day. He is a wonderful son, grandson, brother, nephew, and friend. We all love Caleb more than words can say and want to make sure he is around to enjoy life together for years to come. As we are about to celebrate his 23rd birthday we are asking that you consider making it really special and give a donation to help him to continue to receive treatment as needed. We are prayerfully optimistic. We appreciate every gift, no gift is too small.
