Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers of Calder Justice,
As you know, Calder was diagnosed with brain cancer in May of 2023. We are grateful to report that the tumor was successfully removed on June 2, 2023, and he has been steadily recovering physically and cognitively ever since.
We are reaching out on behalf of Calder and his family, to share that while he has shown incredible strength and resilience through this challenging journey, the road is still long and filled with various, complex, behind-the-scenes obstacles. The financial burden of not yet being fully employable, the cost of everyday expenses and health care not covered by insurance, the inability to continue deferring student loans, the denial of Disability funds, and the weight of ongoing MRI monitoring ($40k a year) is overwhelming.
Hence, we are launching a new fundraising campaign to see if we can ease the burden of these expenses that are rapidly becoming unmanageable. Your generous donation will go directly towards:
-Expenses not covered by insurance
-Daily living expenses until he is fully employable again
-General self-care
-Mental health support for the resulting depression/anxiety that naturally accompanies such a trauma
-Catching up with bills deferred
-All treatments that aid in making a full cognitive recovery
Any contribution, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to helping Calder achieve a full recovery in every way and return to the life he loves and deserves. If you cannot contribute financially, your prayers, positive thoughts, and sharing of this campaign are equally valuable and deeply appreciated.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support, compassion, and generosity during this time.
With gratitude,
Elise Bergsten (family friend of the Justice’s)

‐----------------------------------------------
Hello, friends and family of Calder. Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers and offers of support. Please keep them coming! This page will funnel financial support to Calder as he goes through immediate medical care.
Here is what we know so far:
On May 22, Calder (31) suffered a grand mal seizure, and was diagnosed with a brain tumor in his left frontal lobe called an oligodendroglioma. Calder and family will meet with his surgical team on May 31 to plot a surgical path that will remove the tumor. Subsequent treatment will be determined after the lab tests on the tumor are back.
Meanwhile, he is resting at home in Denver (just relocated after 13 years in Boulder) with round-the-clock caregivers (friends and family). Violent seizures resulting in five compression fractures in his back have resulted in the need for strong pain medication as well as anti-seizure treatment.
While Calder intends to continue work as he is able, it is likely that he will not be self-supporting for some time.
We're aiming to raise several months of Calder's living expenses with this goal, so that Calder can just focus on the crucial recovery at hand.
Thank you so much for any assistance you can give.
