In 1935 the first school was built in Calcutta Village, Corozal District (Belize , Central America) as a small tatched roof building that provided a home for educating 35 students who lived in and around the village. Today the school has progressed thanks to many locals and international organizations who helped build new buildings and new education programs. The new school is home to 198 students. We are planning to build a computer lab and need to raise $4000 to purchase the computers.
The vision for the computer lab is to teach basic computer classes and to give the older students an opportunity to learn about coding leveraging STEM programs like 100 Girl of Code and Code.org. In addition, the teachers will be able do research and grow their technical skills. Your support will help us purchase the computers and networking hardware to setup the lab. Our goal to purchase 10-15 computers which we estimate will cost aournd $300-$350 each.
Mr Miguel Hernandez was recently transferred to serve as principal to Calcutta School. Mr. Hernandez made a transformation of the entire educational system in Calcutta SDA School. The request for the Computer lab came directly from Mr Hernandez who understands the importance of technology to these students and teachers.
Impact Belize is a non-profit that has been setting up computer labs in remote villages in Belize for the past 6 years. They have setup over 15 computer labs throughout the Corozal district. Computers are typically sent down to Belize with a mission team who will then setup the computers and connect them to a network. Impact Belize works with the Belize Telecom to get free internet for the school. Impact Belize believes that connecting people globally opens up tremendous opportunities for career and commerce as virtual assistants and technical consultants.
Thank you in advance for your support.
