Why:
After last year’s Alumni Game was cancelled due to Covid, a few alums got together to produce a CAL Soccer Alum Webinar Series. Thanks to our organizer, Jenny Wendell Lentz, we spent July learning about Female Footballers, Black Lives Matter, Health Care/Front Line Bears, and then finished with a Women’s Soccer Summit. Not wanting to stop the momentum, Whitey (Amy White Hockenbrock) decided to host Happy Hours each month in the fall. Our final Holiday Happy Hour was a hit with everyone’s ugly sweaters, hats and blinking lights...Haley Lukas’s real gloves sown-on sweater covering her boobs was my personal favorite. With nothing on the Cal Women’s Soccer horizon to look forward to, Rachel Mercik suggested we create a website to celebrate our group, preserve our history, connect Bears young and old, and bring more alums back into the fold. It’s an, “If we build it, they will come” theme.
How:
So, today, we officially launch the CAL Women’s Soccer Alumni Website and the fundraiser to sustain it. Check it out on the link below. We will be using these funds to pay for the domain and host fees, in addition to paying stipends to the creator and content captains to help keep it running and timely for the next few years. Obviously, this donation is not tax deductible. But we were hoping that if you had planned on contributing to CAL Women’s Soccer at last year’s cancelled alum event, and didn’t, you would consider donating to the website today! Please share this with any of our supporters, parents and fans who may not be on our email list.
Future:
Your donation will not only help preserve our legacy, but you’ll also be awarded an Original Torrey (Delaplane) Michael’s CAL Soccer T-Shirt! We will send these out sometime in March/April and will need your address to do so. Finally, if you’re interested in helping out on any level (content contributor, technical assistant, social media promoter, or you just have some ideas for us to add, etc), please contact JT.
