Fundraiser for Cal’s medical Expenses

Hi, my name is Garry Hatch, with the help of my daughter Kathleen, we have created this go fund me for my brother Cal Hatch.

Anyone who knows Cal knows that he is kind, generous, and is an incredibly hard worker. He doesn’t complain, and strives to be happy and positive. He is a family man, he adores his wife, his 5 children, and each of his grand babies.

This past year Cal has been facing some very difficult medical issues and in the fall their family was given news that has been life changing. Cals liver has stopped functioning. There is no particular reason to be found but here we are.

Cal has just completed a big liver assessment with the transplant team at the U of A hospital and they have put him on the transplant list. Without a transplant he would only live about another year. So we are very excited to be heading in this direction and hopefully have another 20+ years with him.

This will not be an easy road to go down.

Currently his days are filled with exhaustion, discomfort, constant medical issues, and to top it off, financial stress.

During the process of receiving a transplant, he will be off work for a minimum of 4-6 months. One month in the hospital and at least two more in Edmonton to be close to the transplant team. Then will go home to heal -getting the strength to get back to work

After leaving the hospital he needs to have blood work multiple times a week at the UofA and rehab to get his body strong again. He and Sheila need to live as germ free as possible, which makes it hard to stay with the grandkids. So they hope to be able to rent something close to UofA. So with that and still trying to pay their mortgage and normal expenses, they will be under considerable financial stress

Family and friends have been asking how they can help and support Cal and his family during this time. This is a way to do just that. Funds raised will go to Cal, helping to cover the cost of living away from home, travel for medical appointments, recovery time after his surgery, and be used as needed for expenses along this challenging road.
