Cake’s Cancer Challenge: Call to Action
Donation protected
This is my badass, beautiful friend Cake. If you know Cake (a.k.a Mac) you know that she is kind and generous and would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it…heck, if you know her, she might well have ALREADY given you her shirt (or some other generosity) and she probably told you a great story to go along with it. She is one of the most empathetic and caring people I know. Right now, she needs the care and generosity of others.
Cake has completed an outstandingly difficult regimen of treatment for a nasty form of cancer that has already claimed the lives of two in her community. She braved her way through without even telling anyone she was sick. She thought she could make it through on her own, but it became too difficult for her. She’s working on recovering and letting her body heal from all of this, and she looks forward to being able to help others navigate this process once she comes through it. In the short term, though, she isn’t able to resume her work yet. Like so many, she’s been self-employed and doing gig work and doesn’t have the safety net of sick leave or short term disability, so she’s been without income through her treatment and is unable to return to work. This makes paying bills and maintaining a home a hardship.
Which is why I’m asking friends and families for help: covering Cake’s expenses to get her through this stage of recovery will only take 100 people donating $100, or 1000 people (even kind strangers) adding in $10. It would mean the world to me to see our communities pay forward the kindness that Cake herself extends to so many in her own network. If you aren’t able to donate right now, please consider sharing on your social media, someone in your network may be able to chip in, and every bit of support matters.
