Cajun Kurt's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
In the pre-dawn hours of Sunday, February 25th, Kurt (“Cajun”) Terrebonne lost control of his Street Glide, striking a curb, and was thrown from his bike. Susan was immediately notified of the accident by the police and upon arrival at the hospital advised that Kurt was already in surgery to address life-threatening injuries. Shortly thereafter, doctors told Susan that Kurt had sustained a traumatic brain injury, severe fractured skull, brain bleed, multiple rib fractures, and damage to his chest, lungs and abdominal area, requiring two surgeries and use of a ventilator to help his lungs recover. He has been on sedation since the accident while his injuries continue to heal and Susan has been at Kurt’s bedside, dealing with doctors, overseeing his care and recovery (keeping all the docs on their toes!), filing all necessary paperwork, etc., all the while maintaining their household and managing her professional work responsibilities.

While there are many unknowns in terms of the extent of Kurt’s brain injury, we remain hopeful that he’ll make a full recovery. The road to recovery, however, is not a matter of weeks, but several months of rehab before he will be able to go home. Kurt is currently on Family Medical Leave (FMLA) from his employer, meaning he is eligible to continue his medical insurance premiums at the employee rate for a period up to 12 weeks. Once the 12 weeks of FMLA ends (Mid May), Susan will need to secure COBRA coverage to continue Kurt’s medical insurance premium payments which will be at a much higher rate than they are currently paying under FMLA. It is unknown how much the out-of-pocket expenses associated with Kurt’s hospitalization and rehabilitation will be, but they will be significant.

Alfredo and I are asking for your support through GoFundMe to help raise funds for Kurt and Susan as they navigate the process of Kurt’s recovery. The days, weeks, and many months ahead will be difficult and will present numerous challenges but there is one thing we know – Kurt – or ‘Cajun’ as he is fondly known by many- is a force to be reckoned with. He’s has tremendous strength and resolve and with Susan by his side, he will get through this and be even stronger. With your support, we hope to make this process easier for Kurt and Susan. So many of you have asked how you can help and at this point in time – in addition to anything you can contribute through GoFundMe, no matter how large or small – the most important thing is to send prayers, healing thoughts and good vibes.

Thank you,
Wendy & Alfredo
