If you know Dave I'm sure you'll agree that you can't help but love him! Whether you have know him forever or just a short time, Dave's upbeat and friendly personality is infectious. So PLEASE help him and his family in their time of need.
Back in May of 2020 Dave started having swelling and pain on his left leg. After seeing several doctors it was determined that he had cancer in his lymph nodes.
On June 6th he was officially diagnosed with STAGE 4 Colorectal Cancer that had spread to his lymph nodes. The plan was to have Dave start chemotherapy for 3 months and then perform a CT scan in October to determine how well he was responding to treatment. However on September 5th, Dave was hospitalized for blood clots in his lungs, which is a side effect of the chemotherapy. During this hospital stay one of the scans showed that the cancer has spread to his abdomen.
In October it was decided to change his course of treatment. Dave is now on an experimental, targeted therapy drug called Braftovi. This causes less side effects than his original treatment and is scheduled to complete in mid January.
Unfortunately, Dave has been unable to work since May because of the swelling in his left leg, abdominal bloating, and fatigue. He recently received a procedure called Paracentesis which drains the fluid from his abdomen and gives him temporary relief. If he respond well to the current treatment and the cancer doesn't spread, then it is hoped he can be a candidate for surgery to remove the remaining cancer.
It has already been a long and difficult battle for Dave and his family. He still has a long way to go. Dave is a long time Union 597 Pipefitter, so please help in any way you can to support him and his family in this difficult time.
