Caius Medical Costs

Hi! Meet Caius. He is an affectionate and playful 55 lbs fetch machine. At 11 years old, he has never slowed down and never missed a meal, and definitely never let me sleep in too long. After an urgent vet visit, three days in the hospital, two ultrasounds, and one surgery later, he had his gall bladder removed and was diagnosed with end stage liver disease. Over this short time, his medical costs have accumulated to nearly $20,000 and increasing with every day and every procedure in the hospital. He has been the biggest joy in our lives, and we are quickly reaching the end of our financial rope to get him back home. His little brother, Lugnut, is absolutely lost without him. He hasn’t figured out how to tell time the way Caius can.

On April 5, 2022, he changed from the energetic boy I’ve always known. He slowed down, got sick, and ate half a meal. On April 7 he had an urgent Vet appointment and had a bilirubin level of ~7 mg/dL (0.3 is normal) and a low platelet count. This quickly rose to 17, 22, and 30+ while his platelet count fell to 20,000. A plasma transfusion was required to consider surgery to remove his very inflamed gall bladder, and to inspect his liver and other organs showing abnormality on the two ultrasounds he had. His liver was found to be in bad shape, and his time left with us is limited. He is currently recovering from his surgery and it will likely be a week before he can come back home. This guy has been the absolute light of my life. He makes sure I get up on time, reminds me when it’s exactly 6:00 so we’re not late on his dinner, and encourages me to get up and make time for fun every day. Please help us make his recovery a reality, or at the very least recover some of the costs.
